Due to a power outage in the east section of the Village impacting 30 homes and a Village lift station coupled with heavy rainfall, the Village experienced a sanitary sewer overflow at the Bay Point Lift Station at 1:29am on Tuesday, June 19. The Village received over 2” of rain in less than a 12-hour period at a rate of nearly 1” per hour at the peak. To prevent significant damage to private property and avoid further complications with the sanitary sewer system, portable pumps were used to bypass the sanitary sewer system. Approximately 45,050 gallons were diverted into the stormwater drainage ditch and outletted into Lake Michigan.
